Spring has sprung!
There was a fun verse we used to say when spring was near, and we were on the lookout for robins - the harbingers of spring:
Spring has sprung,
The grass has riz,
I wonder where da boidies is.
This is the beginning of my favorite time of year (my second favorite is Autumn). The robins are back, the garlic is coming up, and the buds are forming on the rose bushes and the dogwood tree.
I think God gave us seasons for many reasons, not the least of which is to learn about our relationship with Him, others, and ourselves. I see all the necessary work, but I am content because life will continue even when I miss a day or two of activity.
After a long winter, spring is full of hope, plans, and renewed vigor. Spring looks forward, takes the lessons of past summer, and pushes the results forward in new fertilized beds, rich warm soil, and carefully placed seeds.
I recently read that we should let the gardens sleep in a bit since the beneficial insects are just getting ready to come out of their respective nests, cocoons, egg pods, and hives. This year I will first do what is above ground - trim the roses back, cut the invasive ivy, and clear up winter detritus in the back garden. I’ll wait until the ground temp is at least a steady 65*F before I dig around too much.
Springtime is my time to throw off the covers, put my feet down into my sandals, and grab my gloves and spade. I don’t worry overmuch about the winter’s musings; I treat life as a *tabula rasa, just as God does with me when He has taught me and I have understood! Go forth and learn anew! Go forth and love! Don’t carry yesterday into today.
Jesus said: “Therefore do not worry about tomorrow, for tomorrow will worry about its own things. Sufficient for the day is its own trouble.” Matthew 6:34
