Hello friends and family,
I want to share some thoughts with you as I embark on a new journey. This needs a bit of background for an introduction.
I’ve been a pastor and teacher for 24 years. I have never charged a penny for the work, but simply obeyed Jesus when He said:
As you go, proclaim this message: 'The kingdom of heaven has come near.' (8) Heal the sick, raise the dead, cleanse those who have leprosy, drive out demons. Freely you have received; freely give. Matthew 10:7-8
I’ve seen amazing things in my lifetime and participated in the truly Miraculous. My life is hidden in Christ, and I want to share Him with everyone I meet. That’s why I write frequently about Him. I’m just a daughter of my Abba (Papa God), and I hope to share Him around.
I’ve been writing all my life; I came by it honestly. My father was a writer of short stories - once published in the Saturday Evening Post. My Nana (my father’s mother) was a crime reporter who once interviewed Baby Face Nelson; her novels were published in several different languages. Nana was also a regular contributor to The Saturday Evening Post and Redbook.
Nana got her big break editing Walter Winchell’s column; she had written a novel and decided to put a manuscript on his desk. She was working on Mr. Winchell’s latest column when she discovered the news that he had read her story and raved about it. It made the radio, and she was an overnight success. She published over 30 novels and numerous short stories. A rebellious preacher’s daughter, her stories about the Dust Bowl and the Great Depression gave me insight into that era of our nation’s poverty and suffering.
I was a voracious reader, and my Nana steered me toward some of the greats early on; John Steinbeck, Pearl S. Buck, Aleksandr Solzhenitsyn, and Upton Sinclair. These writers made me feel. They informed me, stirred my imagination, and fleshed out my picture of the world. They filled in the blanks and provided color, texture, sight, and sound.
Once I realized the power of the written word, I aspired to wield my own pen to improve the lives of those around me. I wrote short stories, poetry, and white papers. Later, I developed the Old and New Testament curriculum for a bible school. I developed my personal Theodicy - my defense of God - and taught the Bible in churches and home groups. Eventually, I began writing for my podcast on YouTube, and other social media platforms.
For the past decade or so, I’ve been writing a novel. It’s nearly finished, but my other interests have often pulled me away.
I love to document our gardening, cooking, and baking. We have a new indoor grow tent, and I plan on sharing that journey with you as we go.
I’m excited to tell you I also have plans for a new podcast here on Substack!
But some of the deeper, more personal things, will be cloistered behind a nominal paywall because frankly, it feels safer. Someday I’ll get up the courage to write about (the early trauma of) my life, but I’m still living through the healing; when I get the go-ahead, and the Spirit moves me, I’ll probably bust out of the gate quickly. This is a race, after all.
Now that you know a bit about me, I invite you to walk with me. I’ve finally taken the leap of faith to work as a full-time writer. If you enjoy my writing, I invite you to consider a paid subscription to my Substack. Your paid subscription will help me to keep writing.
Remember, Bible teaching and exhortations for the Church will always be free. I share a lot with my free subscribers.
If you really can’t afford a paid subscription, just message me, and I will gift you a subscription.
Thank you for walking with me.
