What happens when you tell the Lord you are ready to put up a sign that says you are open for business and available to help?
There were important things that Jesus told His disciples before He left to return to His Father:
Matthew 28:18-20 And Jesus came and spoke to them, saying, "All authority has been given to Me in heaven and on earth. (19) Go therefore and make disciples of all the nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, (20) teaching them to observe all things that I have commanded you; and lo, I am with you always, even to the end of the age." Amen.
Mark 16:14-20 Later He appeared to the eleven as they sat at the table; and He rebuked their unbelief and hardness of heart, because they did not believe those who had seen Him after He had risen. (15) And He said to them, "Go into all the world and preach the gospel to every creature. (16) He who believes and is baptized will be saved; but he who does not believe will be condemned. (17) And these signs will follow those who believe: In My name they will cast out demons; they will speak with new tongues; (18) they will take up serpents; and if they drink anything deadly, it will by no means hurt them; they will lay hands on the sick, and they will recover." (19) So then, after the Lord had spoken to them, He was received up into heaven, and sat down at the right hand of God. (20) And they went out and preached everywhere, the Lord working with them and confirming the word through the accompanying signs. Amen.
Luke 24:44-49 Then He said to them, "These are the words which I spoke to you while I was still with you, that all things must be fulfilled which were written in the Law of Moses and the Prophets and the Psalms concerning Me." (45) And He opened their understanding, that they might comprehend the Scriptures. (46) Then He said to them, "Thus it is written, and thus it was necessary for the Christ to suffer and to rise from the dead the third day, (47) and that repentance and remission of sins should be preached in His name to all nations, beginning at Jerusalem. (48) And you are witnesses of these things. (49) Behold, I send the Promise of My Father upon you; but tarry in the city of Jerusalem until you are endued with power from on high."
And let’s not forget the MOST important commands of Jesus!
Matthew 22:36-40 "Teacher, which is the great commandment in the law?" (37) Jesus said to him, 'YOU SHALL LOVE THE LORD YOUR GOD WITH ALL YOUR HEART, WITH ALL YOUR SOUL, AND WITH ALL YOUR MIND.' (38) This is the first and great commandment. (39) And the second is like it: 'YOU SHALL LOVE YOUR NEIGHBOR AS YOURSELF.' (40) On these two commandments hang all the Law and the Prophets."
John 14:15-21 "If you love Me, keep My commandments. (16) And I will pray the Father, and He will give you another Helper, that He may abide with you forever— (17) the Spirit of truth, whom the world cannot receive, because it neither sees Him nor knows Him; but you know Him, for He dwells with you and will be in you. (18) I will not leave you orphans; I will come to you. (19) "A little while longer and the world will see Me no more, but you will see Me. Because I live, you will live also. (20) At that day you will know that I am in My Father, and you in Me, and I in you. (21) He who has My commandments and keeps them, it is he who loves Me. And he who loves Me will be loved by My Father, and I will love him and manifest Myself to him."
Read that again because, for every lover of God, there is a task that fits him or her.
We live in an upside-down kingdom, but Jesus brought the Kingdom of God to this evil and lost world, and He gave commands to those whom He set free so that we could lead others to freedom.
It’s hard not to use the world’s measurements—we’ve used them all of our lives to determine success, failure, freedom, and slavery. But if God didn’t mean for us to succeed in obeying Him, He would not have commanded it. Our faith in Him and His Word(s) is our shield against the evil spirit of this age. Our LOVE is the sign that we are HIS. Don’t say to yourself, “That is for someone stronger, or better, or (fill in the blanks).” Instead, say, “That is for ME! I will do it, Lord! Send me!”
Exercise: Take a piece of paper and pen and list all the commands Jesus gave (in the verses above). Then, ask the Holy Spirit to show you which one(s) you are suited to do.
The wonderful thing is, if we will allow Him to show us, He will. And when we say, “Yes! I’m open to doing business with YOU, LORD!” He will surely equip us and give us the strength to do that job.
